Dr. Taggart Gauvain earned his undergraduate degree at St. Edward’s University in Austin and his medical degree at UT Health San Antonio Medical School. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) and a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at The Foundation for Orthopedic, Athletic and Reconstructive Research in Houston.

In practice since 2010, Dr. Gauvain is board certified in orthopedic surgery. He specializes in surgery of the foot and ankle with special clinical interest in reconstructive surgery, fractures, arthroscopic surgery, total ankle arthroplasty and treatment of sports injuries. He also treats traumatic injuries and provides general fracture care in the upper and lower extremities.

Dr. Gauvain utilizes both surgical and non-surgical treatments. His goal is to restore function and increase his patients’ abilities to participate in the activities they love most. Extremely highly rated by his patients, Dr. Gauvain is described as being personable, patient and willing to go above and beyond to answer his patients’ questions and meet their needs.

An assistant professor at McGovern Medical School, Dr. Gauvain is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society.

  • Operating Room Quality Control and Improvement Committee, Memorial Hermann Hospital Pearland Campus:
    Leading surgeon advisor to the operating room management staff and executive level administrators for the purpose of increasing efficiency, safety and patient outcomes. I have instituted in-service training modules for operating room staff to increase proficiency in work flow and reduce errors in set up and management of operating room equipment. I have also instituted educational meetings involving medical industry personnel to improve the operating room staff’s knowledge of equipment and the safe handling and usage of the equipment.

    Acting representative of the Pearland/SE region. I assist in the improvement of our hospital system, physician relationships and patient care by working in a group setting to analyze data, amend existing procedure and adopt responsible new procedures and protocols.

    Memorial Hermann Hospital Pearland Campus:
    Campus representative and lead committee surgeon for the Pearland campus. I review surgical case and patient care data, develop metrics for the committee, and supervise the participating surgeons. My responsibilities are to help maintain appropriate patient care, promote fiscally responsible hospital protocols, and implement patient workflow pathways to decrease hospital infection rates, decrease hospital readmission rates, decrease hospital length of stay, and improve the patient experience within the hospital.

    Lead team of residents in design and creation of educational material concerning identification and proper reduction technique of hip dislocations

    Designed Hip Fracture Protocol for Memorial Hermann Hospital in Pearland, Texas to help streamline care of patients with hip fractures. Required coordination of Orthopedic, Cardiology, Hospitalist, Anesthesia, and Emergency Room Physician teams to implement gold standard treatment algorithm. Algorithm defined and implemented rapid diagnosis and appropriate work up, rapid admission to hospital with decreased emergency room stay times, improved pain control with utilization of nerve blocks, raid clearance for patients with comorbid conditions, and surgical interventions for hip repair or replacement within 24 hours of admission.
